Oddar Meanchey Province, Cambodia – In a powerful demonstration of commitment to education and community welfare, His Excellency Prof. (Hon.) Dr. SOK Tonh
Vice Chairman of the Board of Angkor University (AU), accompanied His Excellency Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport (MOEYS), on a crucial visit to Hun Sen Chong Kal High School in Oddar Meanchey Province.
The visit focused on a heartfelt get-together where the high-ranking officials sought to personally greet and inquire about the well-being and challenges faced by various stakeholders in the border region.
The delegation met with a diverse group, including educational staff, community members, guardians, and crucially, students and refugees/displaced persons (ជនភៀសសឹក) in the area. This inclusive approach underscores the government’s and supporting institutions' dedication to ensuring educational access and psychological support, particularly for vulnerable populations near the border.
As a leader representing one of Siem Reap's premier higher education institutions, H.E. Dr. Sok Tun's presence highlighted the link between primary/secondary education and future university opportunities. His participation reinforces Angkor University's mission, which champions Quality, Knowledge, and Morality, by engaging directly with the foundational levels of the education system in challenging contexts.
H.E. Prof. (Hon.) Dr. SOK Tonh, in his capacity as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Angkor University, brings a perspective focused on institutional governance, academic quality, and community engagement.
His participation alongside the Deputy Prime Minister signifies that high-level educational leadership is deeply concerned with:
Teacher Welfare: Encouraging and supporting the dedicated educational staff operating in remote or border areas.
Access to Opportunity: Stressing that students in Oddar Meanchey, including those from refugee or displaced families, should have clear pathways to higher education.
Moral and Social Responsibility: Demonstrating through action the importance of empathy and support for community stability, which directly impacts the learning environment.
This initiative is a testament to the collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the leadership of institutions like Angkor University to ensure that the vision for a well-educated Cambodia reaches even the most remote and sensitive parts of the country.
The visit concluded with encouraging words for the staff and students, assuring them of continued support and resources from both the Ministry and partner institutions like Angkor University, paving the way for a brighter future through education.
