AU and MLUMC Partner to Reshape Architecture & Engineering Curriculum

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Angkor University (AU) and the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) held a high-level meeting on the morning of September 15, 2025, to discuss critical reforms in the academic curriculum for future architects and engineers.

The session, which focused on “Curriculum Development for Students Studying Majors Related to Architecture and Engineering,” was presided over by H.E. Theng Chan Sangvar, Secretary of State of the MLMUPC.

The core agenda centered on two pivotal policy shifts aimed at professionalizing the sectors and enhancing graduate readiness:

- Accelerated Professional Membership: The Ministry agreed to explore mechanisms to allow qualified students, starting from their 5th year of study, to fast-track their application process to become official members of the Architects Council of Cambodia and the Engineers Council of Cambodia. This move will significantly reduce the transition time from academia to professional practice.

- Mandatory Management Skills:  MLMUPC mandated that all universities integrate three essential subjects into their existing curricula: Public Policy, Financial Management, and Institutional Management. This requirement ensures that technical graduates possess the necessary business and governance acumen to manage complex projects and lead organizations effectively.

This collaboration signifies AU's dedication to aligning its educational output directly with national professional standards and governmental strategic goals, ensuring its graduates are competitive leaders in Cambodia’s urban development.
