Opening: Monday to Saturday - 7:30 Am to 9:15 Pm
On Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, Angkor University (AU) stood as a pillar of support for the 3rd "Somneh Angkor" (Angkor Writing) public dictation competition. This prestigious event, held on the historic Western Causeway of Angkor Wat, was presided over by H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, and H.E. Hun Mani, Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC).
As a leading academic institution in the region, Angkor University took an active role in ensuring the event's success. Our management, staff, and students volunteered extensively to prepare the venue, organizing thousands of desks, chairs, and essential materials to accommodate the record-breaking turnout.
Key Event Highlights:
Record Participation: 1,860 candidates joined this year, a significant leap from the 1,220 participants in 2025.
Inclusivity: The competition welcomed 231 monks and participants ranging in age from a 5-year-old child to an 82-year-old elder.
Sacred Tradition: The dictation text was read by Venerable Hak Sienghai, Director of the Buddhist Association for Education, adding a spiritual and scholarly depth to the competition.
Our Commitment to Khmer Literature
Angkor University’s involvement goes beyond logistics. By mobilizing our community to support "Somneh Angkor," we reaffirm our commitment to:
Promoting Literacy: Encouraging correct Khmer spelling and appreciation for national literature.
Cultural Preservation: Honoring our identity at the heart of the Angkor World Heritage site.
National Unity: Collaborating with the Ministry of Education and UYFC to foster a love for the national language among the younger generation.
We are immensely proud of our students and staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help showcase Cambodia’s rich literary heritage to the world.
